ROLO
At trot at trot at the late hour / Dancing picnic roll
Rolo was formed as a project by three musicians from Split in 2015. In addition to classical instrumentation, they also use a variety of electronic tools and create infectious instrumentals to which they insert short texts in the form of slogans or short exclamations. In the creation of songs, Rolo enters numerous musical branches, from which minimalist, repetitive and sometimes almost mantric compositions, danceable and ecstatic, are then created. This electro punk/experimental band has recorded three albums so far: RØLØ - 2016., HØØP - 2018. and Ponte Rosso - 2021. Rolo is made up of Mišo Komenda and Karlo Kazinoti, otherwise a well-known design duo, and Bernard Andrijašević aka Bexon.
ŠUMSKI
Nomen est Omen - In Situ / Mulching of low vegetation and macchia
Since 1991, one of the longest-running bands/projects of the Zagreb alternative scene - Šumski - has been creating its own small musical cosmos. Experimental, unencumbered, always consistent with its vision, over three decades they have gone from an instrumental-improvisational group to a band with a clear song structure and surprising lyrics. Their compositions reveal a series of sources from which they originate, confidently and relaxedly stepping through post-punk, krautrock, psychedelia, art rock and other genres, while at the same time their unusual and original musical vision is not enslaved by the canons of any genre. In addition to Croatia, they have performed in Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Hungary, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany and the United Kingdom. Šumski has released six albums: "Lov na vile", "Safari", "Baba spava", "Ronioci", "Ostrvo ledenog kita" and "Kolobari". On Derivat we listen to them with their motto "For a depressing time - happy depressing hits!" Šumski are: Juraga, Šeper, Glušac, Krasnić, Matijević and Pavlović.
PEACH PIT
Post rock at the threshing floor / Deep Bukovica Sunset Noise Experience
Peach pit have been performing as a trio since the nineties. There is an oral tradition that John Peel, a music promoter and BBC DJ, introduced Peach pit in the late nineties with the album Tricky Slaughter Operation. In their development phases, they were both a quartet and a quintet, but on Derivat we hear them in their most faithful version as a trio. They can be considered the founders of the Zagreb post/math rock scene. The power from the amplifier and the constant change of dynamics and tempo, complicated rhythms and the interplay of all band members are the basic rules of the game of their sound. During their long existence, the band had long breaks playing in bands on the experimental sound scene. Every time they concentrated on themselves again, the band came out with new interesting material that would delight their fans. After the great album Dovidjenja u Calgaryu (2014), they released another great album "2018-2023" at the beginning of this year, which was created over the course of five years. As one complete composition, it is divided into two sides “2018-2020“ and “2021-2023“. Peach pit's music is indeed difficult to describe, but if we had to look for sources, we could reach for the names of No wave, Krautrock, Crimson, Swans, Tortoise and similar musical innovators faithful exclusively to their vision of music. Peach pit is made up of Mihael Bele, Franjo Glušac and Bruno Vorberger.
LANA
From trot to gallop / Hard Bukovica Underground
DJ from Benkovac and member of the RITAM collective. A musically trained clarinetist, pianist and guitarist, and once a ballerina – today fully dedicated to the world of electronic music. Since 2021, she has been tirelessly exploring psytrance, underground techno and hardstyle, creating sets that combine multiple genres into a hypnotic and energetic journey. On the deck, she is precise and technically meticulous, but at the same time raw and untamable, always on a mission to lift, spin and dance the audience to exhaustion. In her home studio, she experiments with melodies and rhythms, creating tracks that reflect her emotions, experiences and musical influences. If a new star can emerge from this wilderness of ours – we are rooting for her. If not, at least let her dance to exhaustion. We are used to that.
